G.I.F.T. is a small Canadian NGO dedicated to the health care of the indigenous Maya population in the lake Atitlán region of Guatemala.
G.I.F.T. was founded by Doctor Lyle Waldman, a Montreal doctor, who was charmed by this region and its inhabitants. That is why, for the past several years, G.I.F.T. organizes mobile clinics in the villages of the department of Sololá. Pregnant women, mothers, children, and the elderly have been G.I.F.T.'s chief priority since its creation.

Doctor Lyle Waldman and his team of volunteer healthcare specialists, offer free medical consultations to the neediest people of this department. The group arrives early in the morning, sets up in a community center or school, opens several private offices and sees people with an assortment of health problems that have gone untreated, due to a lack of money.
G.I.F.T. works in conjunction with some local associations that help to coordinate good and effective medical clinics, permitting it to care for 2000 to 2500 patients yearly. About 20% of these will need further care and are referred to a private clinic in Panajachel.
